The Majesty of Nature
I watched an interesting program on The Discovery Channel…or was it National Geographic? I forget. That’s not the point anyway. It was a show called “Nature’s Most Amazing Events”. I have to say…it was impressive. Infact, it was amazing.
I have always been enthralled by Wildlife Documentaries. I am not sure what it is exactly, but there is something about seeing creatures living out their lives at one with nature that stirs something within me. It’s moving to watch the ups and downs, the efforts the make to keep going and, best of all, the way they are resigned to it. They take the best of it. They take the worst of it. They live in acceptance. It’s humbling to watch.
It’s also humbling to see millions of trout (or was it salmon?) getting massacred by sharks, whales, dolphins and birds…all at the same time! It was like watching nature’s own super version of Lobster Fest. Seriously though. I watched about 3 hours of this sort of thing that day. I couldn’t move. Even the new Transformers movie could not keep me spellbound that way. The sheer scale of the events…well, I have said it was amazing.
There are bits of this all around us everyday. There are examples of patience, co-operation, planning, goal-setting, perseverance…the sort of qualities that can help enhance our daily lives. We can learn from anything, as humans. I think there is something to be said for take a page out of the book of nature.
Catching this on TV also reminded how little of this sort of thing I see anymore. They just don’t make these cool docs like they used to. As for this particular show, I think you can find out more about it here. Watch it.
